Hi,
Is it possible to use vMotion between ESXi v5.5 hosts [standalone] who have only 2 Nics each and no shared storage?
Any documentation in how to do this or video on youtube?
Thanks.
You can as long as you meet all of the requirements that can be found on Vmware's documentation center and knowledge base.
You mentioned standalone esxi hosts, meaning no vCenter Server? If so then you cannot use vMotion.
I was going to install vCenter Server if this is possible.
You need to have a shared storage shared between 2 hosts among which you are considering vMotion of a VM.
In vsphere 5.5 you do not need to have shared storage for vmotion. It will work even we don't have shared storage. Main requirements are
1.vcenter and the hosts should be connected to them.
2.vmotion network should be there on both the hosts.
Yup starting with vSphere 5.1, you can have vMotion without shared storage.
Yeah but that would migrate VM from storage accessed on Host 1 to Storage accessed on Host 2 so technically you are doing storage vMotion at the time of vMotion.
