Can I still keep RDM and create snapshot ?

We just migrate from ESX 3.5 to vSphere 4.0 in last month. Everything runs fine except a VM with RDM.

That VM has 2 Virtual HD - C on a VMFS Volume with Block Size 1MB and D (300GB in size) as RDM. We are not able to create snapshot since migration.

From the discussion forum, we find that the solution is to move the C drive (i.e. the first Virtual HD) to a VMFS Volume with Block Size 2MB (so that it supports VHD of size up to 512GB). We did create one VMFS (of size around 200GB) with block size 2MB. When we attempt to migrate C drive to the newly created VMFS volume, it failed as it seems that the RDM disk is migrated as well (though we have chosen keep the location).

Is there any way for us just to move C drive to the newly VMFS Volume or we have to move the RDM drive as well ? The major problem is we are short of disk space to create a VMFS volume of size > 200GB.

Thanks

You can select which which virtual disk you want to migrate in "advance" mode. Please check attached screentshots.
