That seems to be the Problem, The administrator@vc55 is you machine administrator account. login with these and check?

username : Administrator@vsphere.local

Password : SSO master password

You will need to connect to a vCenter Server with the vSphere Web Client. From there you create a datacenter, and you can add hosts/clusters to it.

Step 1 to Add a Host in the vSphere Web Client

1.  In the vSphere Web Client, navigate to a datacenter, cluster, or folder within a datacenter.

When I navigate to datacenters in the web client there are no objects.

So I go to the "Create Datacenters" section of thedocumentation.

Prerequisites

Open a vSphere Client session to a vCenter Server.

Does this mean connect using the vspere client instead of the web client?

Is it possible to add a datacenter from the web client?

Yes , you could do the same via web client or a direct connection to the Host using the vsphere client.

Thanks,

Procedure

1 In the vSphere Web Client, navigate to the vCenter Server object.

2 Select Actions > New Datacenter.

3 Rename the datacenter and click OK.

Maybe I am being dense but I don't see a vCenter Server object in the web client.

I do see a vCenter Servers under inventory lists but I don't see anywhere to select action.

Am I looking in the right place?

Click the Home icon at the top of the vSphere Web Client. Then under the Inventories section, click Hosts and Clusters on the Home tab. In the left pane, right-click on the root vCenter Server object. Select New Datacenter from the context menu.

Hi,

I think may be permission issues.? what credentials are you logging in with is it

Administrator@vsphere.local.?

cred.PNG

Then you will get a screen as such

Capture2.PNG

Then you should be able to get to the screen pasted by Vmroyale

Thanks,
Avinash

my computer name is vc55

I logged off and logged back on with administrator@vc55

login was successful

I get the screen below but when I click on "Hosts and Clusters" it still says "Inventory Empty"

I used the "Simple install" when I installed v-center. Is that the problem?

It looks like maybe you haven't configured SSO yet? If not, check out:http://www.derekseaman.com/2013/10/vsphere-5-5-install-pt-12-configure-sso.html

You can probably skip the Configure SSO STS Chain section, but make sure you login as administrator@vsphere.local to the vSphere Web Client. Once you complete the SSO setup, add your domain account as an Administrator the vCenter inventory object, as shown here - note the administrator@vsphere.local account is circled in red:
