Can I VMotion between two different subnets?

Hi All,

I want to clear some concepts here,

Can I do VM Motion from on subnet to another subnet ? the subnet in the second Data Center is different, hence, I have to change the IP address, I am wondering how this is going to happen seamlessly.

You may be able to setup the vMotion network this way. However the subnets for the virtual machines have to be the same, otherwise they would not be able to operate (access the network) after vMotioning them.

Hi,

You can do vMotion only when you are in same Network and also with same same Class range, Other wise you will receive error message while vMotioning.

we could trick VMotion to start by creating the same virtual switch name on both end, but then it does not make sense because once vmotion to the other end with diff ip settings (still maintain the initial and not reflect to that whats needed in the new end), the OS still retain the old which will render the whole VM useless.
