CPU ready time 0.4% = ~ 8000 ms ?

Hey Guys,

I was checking this vm which had an average of 8450 ms ready time for the past 1 month. This is a 6vcpu vm running on esx 4.1

Now the customer was asking me that his vm had to wait 8.4 seconds literally for the cpu to be allocated?

When I dug further in - i found out that its actually 8450/20,000 ms ~= 0.45% and that the treshold was actually 10% and not 15 ms as I had previously thought.

What is an appropriate explanation to the customer? He says a vm waiting 8 seconds is too much.

No resource contention on the cluster.

Please advise.

I belive the CPU ready in vCenter is a aggregate for all vCPU's of the VM. Since this is a 6 vCPU VM I would take the 8450/20000 = 42% 42/6  = 7% per vCPU which is ok.
