I'm running an esxi 4.1 host. Anytime I connect th Host device cdrom to a vm, it will not stay connected. The task process just fine and finishes without an error. But if I go back into the seting for th evm, it will show the connected check box unchecked. I tried this with a few vm's and cdrom will not stay connected to any.
What sort of hardware are you using and what type of CD-ROM device is it? Have you checked the log file for ESXi? Go to Home > System Logs and then look at the server log /var/log/messages. Note that the whole log file may not be displayed and you may have to click Show All.
