Hi All,
I am not able to get the web ui login screen on my standalone 5.5 esxi server after upgrading with patch esxi550-201609001.zip.
I tried with Firefox and Chromium, both give blank screen.
When browsing to the server IP or FQDN it shows: You are running Dell Customized Image ESXi 5.5.0 Update 3 A04 (based on ESXi 5.5.0 VMKernel Release Build 3248547)
That is the version the DC gave me and I always updated it with 201601001, 20160200,201608001, and last one 201609001.
What could be wrong and how to get the WebUI I don't want to use the windows vsphere version.
Thanks
esxcli software vib update only updates existing vibs, and because"esx-ui" vib was added with one of the latest patches it has never been installed.
Which update command to use depends on the build you are running, and is especially important with OEM builds like the one you are using.
I usually use esxcli software profile update ... because this command adds new vibs in addition to updating existing ones. If you are unsure what the command is going to install/replace, simply add the --dry-run option to the command line to get a preview.
Anyway, for the Embedded Host-Client "esx-ui" I'd suggest you consider to download the latest .vib version from ESXi Embedded Host Client, and install it.

The blank page issue is usually related to the browser cache. Please ensure that you delete the cache and/or refresh he web page.

Hi André,
Thanks, I tried that, I made sure no popup blocker was active, cleared caches, but no result.
I am able to login with same browser to another esxi server with same patch level and that works perfectly fine.
Seems the ui thinks I am still running with the older kernel version, I looked in the advanced setting to find if it is stored there, but couldn't find it either.
I compared running service with both esxi servers, but all same.
The version which shows up in the screen is the one that was initially installed, so you shouldn't need to worry about this.
Did the Web-UI work prior to the upgrade?
If not, please ensure that the "esx-ui" vib got installed (may not be the case when using esxcli software vib update ...).
André
Thanks André,
Glad to have confirmed I don't have to worry about the initial version, much appreciated.
I never tried to webui before this update, as I understood it was still not advised to use in production with v5.5
- Found that indeed the esx-ui is NOT installed, and yes I used indeed the esxcli software vib update depot esxi550-201609001.zip
How to get this installed? do I need to replace the word update with install or is there another way to get it installed without putting server in maintenance mode and a reboot?
Kind regards,
Image with esx-ui installed on the other sever.

Hi André,
Thanks ever so much, I was not aware of such as I always used the update command, I will do as you advised and get the 'fling'
Just for my piece of mind, would it be possible I am missing out important additions with previous updates and how to find out?
Again, thanks ever so much for your time and explanation, I learned a lot. ![]()
Kind regards,
P.S. Fling installed and it works now ![]()
There have only been two vibs so far which were added to ESXi 5.5 after GA. One of them is the mentioned "esx-ui", and the other one is "xhci-xhci".
The easiest way is to check out https://esxi-patches.v-front.de/vm-5.5.0.html which gives you an excellent overview for all versions, 5.0 and later!
