Best way to take iSCSI storage offline

Hello,

I have a cluster of hosts, connected to Equallogic iSCSI storage. I want to remove and re-create a storage volume, but in a fairly safe way.
Ideally, I would be able to take the volume out of action for a few days, but have it avaiable to reconnect if required. Normally, I would do this by just putting the volume offline. It then can't be seen by the hosts, but I put it back online if required.
Is this the best way though? It does seem to cause a few issues which I think are to do with the software iSCSI adapter being unable to find the device, until a rescan/reboot of the host is done.
Can anyone suggest a better way of doing this?
