Best Virtual Disk/Controller Format for Us?

Hi folks!

We are installing VMware ESXi 4 on a number of HP ProLiant DL380 G3 and G4 servers. Each of the servers' underlying physical disks are Ultra320 SCSI disks in RAID 5 arrays using HP/Compaq Smart Array 5i or 6i controllers.

The virtual machines we are creating/migrating will be running either Windows Server 2003 Standard (32-bit) or Ubuntu Linux 9.10 (32-bit).

When creating virtual disks, I can choose between BusLogic, LSI Parallel, LSI SAS, and VMware Paravirtual SCSI/SAS controllers/drives, or IDE controllers/drives.

Can anyone give me some information on the pros and cons of each, and recommend what I should be using in our particular environment to achieve the best performance?

Thanks,

Shump

Use the default one from the new VM wizard.

Just avoid the BusLogic controller as it reports a queue depth of 1 with Windows, and performance suffers as a result.
