Basic help needed, in understanding the VMWare ESX Server

Hi all, Im very newbie to VMWare, I have a requirment, where a Linux machine will have VMWare ESX Server, which has WinXP virutal machines in it.

so each person one WinXP virtual machine, so I have a very basic doubt.. How many Virtual machines will be stored in the VMWare ESX Server. If it is so, there should be limit on the number of users access the virtual machine.

Or when a user connect the Server will create an instance of the XP OS.

Please help me in understanding this.

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at VMware View - it specially designed to manage multiple VMs in cases such as yours.

Since View 3 works with ESX 3.5 now, here are numbers for View 3. View 4 will be released in a couple of weeks.

170 VMs per one ESX host, up to 20 vCPUs per pCPU.

2000 VMs per single vCenter.

One last question

Acccording to this statement.. each person will get itz own OS... and will have his own workspace..If so is tht not limiting the number of users..

Or It would be better if the server creates the instance of the OS image when user connects to the VMServer..

There is detailed information in VMware View manual. If you have questions after reading it - welcome.
