Backup solution

I have a VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) standalone server, free version.

I need to implement a backup solution for disaster recovery purposes.

I am evaluating some different solutions, but up to now I did not find the right one...

  • If I install a backup program on each VM and perform a backup image I can recover the VM but I lose the snapshots
  • If i use OVFTOOL (fast, efficient and free) I can save each VM but I lose the snapshots
  • Downloading the folders containing the VMs from the datastore requires a lot of time and disk space and saves the snapshots, but I am note sure it provides a safe recovery method

I there any other solution I don't see?

Suggestions, pointers and hints welcome...

Regards

marius

Hi Marius,

If you're looking for free solutions, I think that you did a great job with the ones that you already thought about. I think you can also try VCB.

If you want to pay, I think VDR will be the cheapest solution for you.

use agent backup.Link install the agent on the virtual machine as you do on physical server and schedule a backup from the backup server.

This is the easiest way.. make sure you schedule backup in non bussiness hours because its going to use network and storage resources.

Try VCB, like backup using vcb scripts not via proxy server..
