Hi,
I am trying to do a backup of my installed virtual disks to an external hard disk (eSATA). The disk is recognized and everything looks fine, but I cannot find a function in vSphere4 client which allows me to copy a virtual machine. In "Datastore Browser", there is a function which allows one to move the virtual machine from one data store to another, but not copying it.
The only possibility I have found so far is copying the virtual machine to the labtop running the vSphere4 client using the "Download" functionality; but this is very very slow due to 100MBit/s network ans USB-connected HDD.
Did I miss something in the vSphere4 client ?
I am aware that VMware Data Recovery is doing just this, but I do not have the money to buy the necessary license.
Regards,
Thomas
A solution could be to enter in the folder, select all files, right click and select copy, then create a new folder, enter in it, right click and select paste.

Hi Andre,
yes, I'll try that tomorrow when I am back at work.
Thanks for thetip,

Hi Andre,
Thanks for your tipp: It works! I tried copying shut off virtual machines and running virtual machines, both methods worked. The running virtual machines seemed not mind their files being copied.
