  • 1.  Backup of MSCS running on vmware

    Hi all.

Our DBA is setting up a MS Cluster (SQL) on 2 ESX hosts.

Is it possible to do a backup of these VM's?

When I try (using Veeam) I get an error saying that I cannot snapshot the macjine because of bus haring on one of the controllers.

    Regards

That would be correct. You cannot snapshot nodes in a cluster.

For backup, you will need to use the regular backup agents as you would if the cluster was physical.

Please award points if this was helpful

The snapshot problem is one of the great limitation of a application cluster environment.

For cluster shared LUNs the only way is use traditional backup or storage snapshot (or similar feature).

For cluster node backup (for example to make a full C: backup) you can build a script that move the cluster resources, power-off the node, make a copy of the first vmdk, and then power-on again the node.
