BIOS/Firmware upgrade for ESXi5.1

Hello,

I have a Dell Poweredge R710 server with BIOS version 6.0.3 and Lifecycle controller version 1.5.5

The server is a VMware ESX 4.0.0 build-261974.

Can I upgrade the server directly to ESXi5.1 or do I need to update the BIOS/firmware version first and then upgrade the server to ESXi5.1?

Hi,

the compatibility guide: ( VMware Compatibility Guide: System Search ) says ESXi 5.1 is ok with BIOS version 3.0.0 and up. So you can just upgrade ESXi.

Only ESXi 5.5 and up will require BIOS version 6.3.0
