Automatically moving to read only permission

I have installed CENTOS 6.0 in my VM and the permissions are automatically moving to read only even though i am giving read and write permissions.

Please explain the problem with a few more details.
Linux systems sometimes boot with / in readonly mode.
That usually happens when the filesystem is dirty after a crash - is that what happens in your case ?
