hi guys
I've been reading a lot about Win2003 and WinXP alignment... but one I want to know is how can I align my Windows 2003 after P2V? I mean for C: Drive
Paragon Aligment Tool does not seem to work....every time I use it and the VM is rebooted after "properly aligned" I get the error "error loading operatyng system"
Since I use IBM Storag I don't have access to netapp tools
vOptimizer is only for 2 optimizations...
creating templates and align them is pretty easy but aligning after P2V I don't see too much documentation
by the way what is your recommendation for Windows 2003 aligment
I usually use 128 blocks x 512 = 64KB for Windows XP
what about for Windows 2003? any recommendation
thanks a lot
this is a good read http://www.dailyhypervisor.com/2009/05/30/vmtn-io-performance-in-vsphere-block-sizes-and-disk-alignm...
and i think it would be able to assist you.
thanks a lot
From experience guys
what do you recommend for starting offset 128 sectors=64Kb for Windows 2003?
or I should standardize to 2048 sectors=1024Kb Like windows 2008?
thanks a lot
I usually use the 1 MB alignment. This way I have the option to do an inplace upgrade (if necessary/desired) in the future.

ok you mean upgrade from W2003 to W2008 right?
Hey
The best practices for vOptimizer recommend that in windows 2003 to align your partition to 64 KB.
I hope this information become usefull to you.

Yes. An upgrade will not modify partitions and therefore I configure the alignment as it would be for Windows 2008.
