Alarm when Task finished as completed

Hi everybody,

I would like to to create an e-mail alert, as soon as a Task (create virtual machine snapshot, Remove snapshot) changes his status to completed.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome!

Best regards

Do you have a Scheduled task ???

If yes, you can configure a e-mail notification when your task was completed

please check the link below :

VMware vSphere 4 - ESX and vCenter Server

Hi Joao,

thanks for answering. It's not a scheduled vmware task.

Background is as follows: We are using Veeam for backup.

If Veeam shows backup as completed, the internal vmware task "remove snapshot" is still running for several hours. (depending on snapshot size)

So, I need a finally notification as soon as the vmware task "remove snapshot" is completed.

Best Regards,

Toni

So I dont know if there is a Vmware native feature to do this, because you need monitoring a event to use it as a trigger. I think you need another solution to monitoring your Vmware Environment , and when this event occur your start another action as send a email, the main monitoring vendors has this feature.

Joao is correct.  You could alert on a scheduled task, but not on one in vcenter that does this.  Vmware log insight might be able to if there is something in the logs, but not the native Vcenter.

Veeam should be able to email when jobs are complete?  Is that not somethign that you can setup?

It's not that easy.

We setup veeam alerting and we receive mails as soon as backup jobs are completed.(in Veeams point of view)

But when the veeam backup job is shown as completed, the vmware task "remove snapshot" (triggered by veeam) is still running for several hours, depending on the snapshot size.

you can create a alarm for snapshot size , for example in our environment we use a backup product which takes snapshot of Vm and deletes it once it is completed ,

so we have configured the snapshot alarm on all VM, (cluster level) so if the snapshot grows during the back up process it will trigger an alarm and (we have integrated with ticketing tool as well , you can choose your defined size as well for snapshot )

so this can be easily tracked .. Let me know if this helps for you
