After ESXi 5 intall, server does not boot.

Hello all,

After I installed the ESXi 5, I get the following message, after the reboot:

Intel(R) Boot Agent PXE Base Code

CLIENT MAC ADDR: XX XX XX XX XX XX GUID: XXXXXXXXXX

DHCP: (it keeps looking for DHCP for a few seconds)

then stops and

PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marcelus

some boards just do not boot from GPT disks

1. install 4.1 and upgrade to 5 - then you will get a system that boots from MBR

2. use "formatwithmbr" switch during setup - that also creates a system that uses MBR disks

It´s possible that you changed boot order in bios?

Double check if you disabled the boot from were you installed ESXI.

Does your system support GPT partition tables?

Please take a look at Re: No boot after clean install for details and for a possible workaround if this is the issue you are facing.

Hi all,

Thanks for your help.

When I put the installation cd and choose boot from hd. It worked. But I would like to solve this problem or I'll have to have to use the cd to boot all the time.

Thanks again

Sorry, but could you tell me how to do that?

On installation type shift+o, and just type formatwithmbr and enter?

Thanks,

Thank you all for your help. After installing and reinstalling 4.1 and 5.1, it seems that now is working. And yes, I had to use the formatwithmbr for 5.1 as you said.
