Adding static route on esxi 5

Hi,

Our client has recently impletement vm backup strategy which does backup on the management network.

They would like to move this traffic to additional unused switches on the hosts.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Hi,

I think you can do it, here is KB article that will help you to add static route to vmkernel portgroup

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=200142...

Hi Mohammed,

The KB mentions adding static route to existing management network.

Can this be applied to another vmkernel port apart from management?

Thanks

Hi,

Will there be any downtime required for this action?

Thanks

Hi,

Let me be honest, I have not tested it.  My  always aprroach will be to have  "change windows scheduled  downtime" when I make any changes on network side.

hello,

The Kb as suggested could be used for adding a static route, there is "no downtime" required for the same.

Make sure that you assign the correct static route.

Cheers,

NS

Yes. There wouldn't be any downtime. Also, You can do this via host profiles adding this static route to it.

Or Simply follow the KB article.
