Adding RDM to MCS on VMware

Dear All,

We have 2 windows  VMs running on the same ESX host. They are in a Cluster.

I have managed to add an RDM Lun  from EMC VNX7500 in shared mode.

I can see the RDM Lun  in both.

But Microsoft Cluster is not recognising the RDM.

How can I make the Cluster to recognize that ?

Please attach the requested vmx files and provide the information which Windows version you use.

Also make sure you chose the correct virtual SCSI adapter, depending on the guest OS.

LSI Logic SAS for Windows Server 2008

Are you using virtual compatibility mode?   Have you reviewed this document, http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_mscs.pdf?

yes I have put in Virtual Compatibility mode.

SCSI Bus has to be same on both?

And I have set the SCSI Bus sharing to be physical

And I have set the SCSI Bus sharing to be physical

For a Cluster-in-a-box configuration the sharing has to be "virtual" (see step 12 on page 18 in the above mentioned documentation)

You also have to make sure the shared disk is on a separate virtual SCSI controller (e.g. SCSI 1:1).

Hi,

Set that to virtual too.

On host1 SCSI is 1:1

host2  SCSI is 1:2

is that fine?

The shared LUN(s) have to be setup on the same SCSI IDs on both hosts.

Did you double check you exactly followed the steps in the documentation?

Please attach the VM's VMX files to your next post to see whether this is a configuration issue.

Btw. which Windows version do you use for the MSCS?

Hi,

Thanks for all the answers that are coming.

But It is still not working

Steps followed

1. Added RDM to VM-A with virtual mapping, SCSI bus sharing virtual, SCSI virtual node SCSI:1:1

2. On  VM-B, added using the "Add an existing virtual disk"  SCSI bus sharing virtual, SCSI virtual node SCSI:1:1

3. on both the VMs I see the Disk

4. In the cluster when i try to add the Disk "No suitable disk found"

Stumped
