Adding Fax to a pci express only server

I have one of the newer Dell R710 machines and my options are pci express or serial for adding some sort of fax functionality. Has anyone had any success doing this with vsphere 4? Im having a hard time finding the proper way to go about doing this. There is not a lot to pick from for fax cards that are pci express and are for server 2003 that arent crazy expensive. The fax modem only needs one line and if I could get any help it would be much appreciated.

The FAX card would need to support PCI VT-d pass through to work. You might find a USB Modem that works with a network enabled USB hub USBAnywhere, Silex, and Belkin. Those do have support in Windows so that might be your best bet.

I asked vmware support and they said to use a serial modem. I might give this one a shot. Thanks for the help so far.

Are you using ESX or ESXi as only ESX will support physical serial devices.

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.

Do you need physical connectivity between the VM and the PBX?

We deployed virtual fax boards with our Call Manager implementation last year, and I would recommend you look at those if you can; In our case we deployed the Brooktrout SR-140 "boards."
