Add extent to boot drive datastore

Hi all,

I've installed a new disk on a ESXi 7 server and I wanted to extend the datastore on the boot disk to span into the new disk, i.e. add a new extent to the datastore.

When I use the esxi web interface I see the new disk but when I try to increase the datastore the wizard does not present the new disk for selection!

I've installed vCenter 7 and I also could do it from there 😞

Then I resorted to the command line, and it also fails!

I created a VMFS6 partition with partedUtil and then tried to add it to the datastore with "vmkfstools --spanfs"

Here is the vmkfstools command output:

[root@r430-4:~] vmkfstools --spanfs /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.64cd98f0496f4a002b29ef6c2c1a0c6e:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.64cd98f0496f4a002b29ef3328c1ad3f:8

VMware ESXi Question:
All data on /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.64cd98f0496f4a002b29ef6c2c1a0c6e:1 will be lost. Continue and format?

0) _Yes
1) _No

Select a number from 0-1: 0

Scanning for VMFS-6 host activity (4096 bytes/HB, 1024 HBs).
Not supported
Usage: vmkfstools -Z span-partition
Error: vmkfstools failed: vmkernel is not loaded or call not implemented.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

RLascas
