Add VOLUME extent to create larger than 2TB

Hi all, I've mapped using extents 3 x 2TB LUNs to create a datastore of sub 6TB.

I now need to present to the Virtual Machine which is Server 2008 R2 a 3 TB VOLUME.

How does one go about creating a 3TB Volume for the VM to use within the newly provisioned 6TB datastore?

Thanks.

While you can use extents to create greater than 2TB datastores a VMDK is still limited to 2TB.

Break up the data into smaller chunks on individual vmdks and then use mount points to reassemble the data. Mount points work for windows or linux. You can also use DFS for windows.

So the is NO WAY to create a VMFS of larger than 2048 GB - correct?

I dont want to use an RDM - I only want to use VMFS as I intend to backup using Veeam.

Is there anyway to provision a VMFS Volume of larger than 2TB?

Will mount points allow the file system to reside as VMFS and hence compatible for a Veeam backup?
