If there's no remaining user or group in the Administrators group, you may need to reinstall vCenter Server.
from vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center
Caution
If you delete the administrator user in the vsphere.local domain, you can no longer log in to vCenter Single Sign-On. Reinstall vCenter Server and its components.
In case of the vCenter Server Appliance I think "root" is also a member.

no root is not the member of this group by default.
any workaround for this?
You have to reinstall SSO and repoint the components again
how to do this in vCenter Appliance?
