Adaptec Backup SCSI card with ESX4

Hi,

With ESX 3.5 the backup guide explained that adaptec scsi cards were required to work with tape devices which are passed through to VM's. We have just upgrade to ESX4 to find that our adaptec 29160 card is no longer supported

Do we still need to use an adaptec card with tape devices when using ESX4?

I don't know if this will specifically help you but have you investigated the hardware pass through feature? We used this to map an adaptec SAS card directly to a specific VM hosting BackupExec and backup to a Dell PowerVault 124T.
