Acessing 2 snapshot of a virtual machine simultaneously

Hi,

Does VMware supports the acessing of 2 snapshots of the same Virtual machine simultaneously?

For example I am having a virtual machine with 2 snapshot - Snapshot A and Snapshot B. Is there any options to access these 2 snapshots simultaneously.

Virtualization software : VMware ESXi 4

Thanks and Regards

Hi

If by access you mean read\write to both snapshoots from VM - it's not possible

No.  The best you are going to get is creating a clone of the VM and working off that.

A clone is the best way to do this currently.

depends : if you have snapshots in a row like

base - snap A - snap B - snapC ...

- then no

if you have snapshots in a tree like

base - snap A - snap A1 - snap A2 ....

snapB - snapB1 - snapB2 ...

then you can do it

Anyway - this sounds like a stupid idea and you should only try it if you REALLY understand how snapshots work

the danger to mess up the tree/chain is significant !!!

Thanks for your reply.

1. Can you elaborate on the two scenarios you have mentioned

" base - snap A - snap B - snapC ...

- then no

if you have snapshots in a tree like

base - snap A - snap A1 - snap A2 ....

snapB - snapB1 - snapB2 ...

then you can do it    "

2. Here in our testing environment, the testers are not associated to a single virtual machine. The create snapshots on different virtual machines. However, if two tester need a single virtual machine for accessing their individual snapshots, it is a problem.
VirtualMachine - Windows 2008
Snapshots Available  - snaptest1
      snaptest2
Tester1 wants to access snapshot1, Tester2 want to access snapshot2 at the same time. This will be a problem and one has to wait for the other. I'm just seeing if this can be solved in any way.
3. Can we write a new client for Vmware? What level of customization does a Vsphere client allow?
