Hi All,
I've 6 VMs on my ESXi that is running SharePoint 2007 & 2010, SQL Server 2005 & 2008 and AD.
My ESXi Server is connected to my wireless router DIR-615 and I access my ESXi Server with vSphere Client wirelessly from my laptop.
Also, I use RDC to remote access my VMs from my laptop as well.
I want to access my VMs remotely from outside my house, but I can't get any step by step instruction from anywhere on the net.
Currently, I've registered with "dyndns.org" and can access my router only from outside. I think what is remaining is port forwrding
which is proving difficult to do.
Which ports should I use? Does anyone redirect me to user guides, blogs or articles on how to do this?
Thanks
A few options.
1) Port forward all inbound traffic to the wireless router DIR-615 to a firewall VM running on ESXi and then have that firewall VM provide access. Or you could just setup the router to port forward to a VPN server.
2) Place a switch between the wireless router and the ISP device. Create a new vSwitch on ESXi with a free NIC and connect the NIC to the switch. Create a firewall VM on ESXi that is connected to the new vSwitch and your existing LAN vSwitch. The new vSwitch will be internet facing and if your ISP allows multiple public IPs you can then configure VPN services on that firewall VM or port forwarding of RDP to the appropriate host.
