Able to perform vMotion of MSCS nodes with RDM in physical mode

Hi Folks ,

We have created 2 node Microsoft 2012 R2 MSCS cluster for SQL DB HA.

Attached storage SAN LUN are mapped as RDM in physical compatibility mode.

Also scsi adapters are are in PHYSICAL scsi bus sharing.

Tried to perform VMotion and it happened successfully. As per my experience upto ESXI 5.0 , this was not possible.

Have anyone faced same behaviour or i have done something wrong while configuration of MSCS setup.

Everything is done according to VMware guide for setting up MSCS.

ESXI Version = VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 (2718055)

Windows 2012 R2

It is possible with vSphere 5.5 to vmotion a MS cluster node with RDM disks but it's not supported, VMware never stated that the actual vMotion would fail more that MSCS can or will trigger a failover.

vSphere 6.0 however supports vMotion with MSCS CAB setups.

Yeah , it is possible on ESXi 6.0 but i am surprised to see at 5.5 Level.

The shared link states "Storage vMotion and vMotion migrations for Shared Disks configurations are not supported and fails when the migration is attempted. "

But its not failing.
