6.5 - Unable to change the scratch location

Hello,

I'm installing a new ESXi 6.5 9298722 HPE custom on a ProLiant DL360 G10.

I'm trying to move the persistent scratch location on the datastore but the task fails every time with "a specified parameter was not correct" error.

I have already created a folder in the root of the datastore called "hostnamescratch" and try to set the ScratchConfig.CurrentScratchLocation parameter in this way

/vmfs/volumes/5c595538-2c0eff94-0287-20677cf05a30/hostnamescratch

5c595538-2c0eff94-0287-20677cf05a30 is the UUID of the datastore.

I did same task in the past on 5.5 with no problems.

Where is my error ?

Regards.

Hi,

Your way of doing this looks good to me.

There are a number of ways to do this,  please have a look at the following KB article.

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1033696

Perhaps one of the other solutions work for you.

Hope this helps,

Hello,

thank you for the answer.

At the end I used the SSH console and the command, I suspect that the web GUI has problems handling the string.

vim-cmd hostsvc/advopt/update ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation string

Just a quick note. It's actually not a GUI bug.

... and try to set the ScratchConfig.CurrentScratchLocation

You accidentally tried to set the wrong setting from the GUI.

The command line you mentioned contains the correct one.

looks like a bug with the gui. Not able to do it though the GUI, but the command line works
