I have a new ThinkServer RD650 updated to current firmware, etc
When I try to install 5.5 fomr CD to the M.2 120GB SSD, it hangs at 9%
I re-tried this install again and still failed
and then again with a brand new identical Intel SSD (suspecting it was the SSD)
I then tried installing from CD to a USB stick and that worked fine
How can I tell what it's hanging on - there are no error messages
Steve
SOLVED :
I tried a second Intel 540 M.2 card - no luck
I then installed a Samsung 850 EVO M.2
Everything installed fine
So it must be something to do with the Intel 540 series as I previously (just 2 months ago) used an Intel 535 M.2 card and it was fine
Hopes this helps someone else out
Steve
There was an error both times - sorry
Unable to format VMFS volume datastore1 - Exited with status : 1048320

Glad you are up and running. If you still want to test the other disk, consider installing the latest ESXi 6.x which may have the bits. Though I don't use your hardware, I did have the same issue with certain M.2 SSD, for which I used the community vib by Adreas until the bits became native in ESXi 6.0 U2.
