5.1 drivers on 5.0

Is it possible to use 5.1 drivers on 5.0?

With this i mean extract vib files from the iso and use?

My problem is that with my new board asrock z87 esxi 5.0 dosent see the sata controller so can install it however with 5.1 (all versions) esxi sees my sata controller just fine.

The reson for installing on 5.0 is that pci passthrough is working.

its not recommended to use like that. Best option would be updating the host to 5.1

Hi,

Check the driver compatibility list, most of the time  drivers from  5.1 will be compatible with 5.0 ESXI

So i found that the board has an Intel "Lynx Point" Series Chipset 6-Port SATA AHCI, wich from the driver compability site is compatible with 5.1 ,5.1u wich makes sense wich is why it dosent work for me on 5.0.

The vib that contain these drivers is  "ahci version 3.0-13vmw" how would one go about downloading this to slipstream with for exapmle esxi customizer?

Do you got it working? I have also the same problem, need to use 5.0 version for usb passthrough but cant install it. And also any version 5.1 prior 5.1 u1 doesnt recognize lynx point sata controler. Tried with ahci version 3.0-13vmw and esxi customizer, but no luck, ahci from any patch zip is 799733 version, and thats first 5.1 version number.

Hi,

Trying to make my ASrock Z87 work with ESX 5.0 update 3 and give pci passthrough a try. But no luck due to the SATA controller not being recognized. I have tried to add multiple VIB files (such as this one for 5.5 http://www.v-front.de/2013/11/how-to-make-your-unsupported-sata-ahci.html) but none is working.


Did someone manage to make ESXi 5.0 work with Lynx SATA controller ? Thanks !

For some devices and hardware there was no change and you can use them but still i would never recommend that because of incompatibility issue that you might face in the future , everything will seem like working fine but suddenly .. bo0m so i would suggest that you stick with the up2date drivers as always .
