32 Bit Virtual Machine on 64 Bit Host

I moved a windows 2003 32 bit machine to a 64 bit host. I would like to upgrade the virtual machine to Windows 2008 R2, is there anyway I can make the virtual machine 64 bit?

The host is running ESXi 5.

Hi,

Not a vmware limitation as such in this instance, rather a microsoft one - cross architecture upgrades are not supported

see - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd979563(v=ws.10).aspx

This would apply with any hypervisor

Welcome to the Community - There is nothing you will need to do to the VM other than install x64 bit version Windows 2008 R2
