A customer uses Arcserve to backup his VMs.
Now we had to restore some VMs after a VMFS datastore died after a power-failure.
The restored VMs fail very early at boot with a problem that usually could be solved with fixing the BCD store.
How can I do the same with a EFI boot partition ?
Hmmm. while I havent used the bcd on 2008R2 systems, I do know there is the bcd store available under EFI in the dvd or iso image of the win2k8 R2 editions. Further from MS, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766223%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
I am setting up the environment as I type to see how different it could be from BIOS recovery.
Hope that helps,
zXi
Solved
the trick was to boot wth a Recovery CD - assign a driveletter to the EFI-partition with diskpart and then rebuild the BCD.
We later noticed that ARCserve does not support EFI at all.
Stupid behaviour ! - the customer thought he had valid backups because the tool claimed it made successful backups
