1GB shows 100MB

Hi guys

On My Lab i have 2 intel corporation 82574l gigabit network connection.

Lately noticed really slowness on the network,

i just figured out those two NICS on the vSwitchs shows the speed 100MB,

i tried to change one NIC from Auto negotiation to 1000Full duplex, some how its disconnect and doesn't comes back !

any suggestions why ?

You'd usually either configure Auto Negotiation (recommended for GBit networks) or fixed speed/duplex on both sides, the NIC as well as the switch port. If Gigabit doesn't work although it should, this could be related to a driver/software issue (probably fixed by a host reboot), or bad network cables (GBit requires CAT5e or better), ...

Hi Andre

the Cable is CATe5,

if the physicall switch is 100 MB can cause this issue ?

the physicall switch where the ESXI connected too.

Yes, if the Gigabit uplinks are connected to 100MBit/s ports on a physical switch, they will report 100MBit/s (the maximum possible speed).

Thank you Andre,

this is clarify the speed issue i have and also with the internet.

if i am on 100 MB switch, the internet speed will be poor right ?

upgrading to 1GB switch would be worth it .

What is the maximum speed of the internet uplink to your ISP?

I would be surprised if it is 100Mbps or more... therefore I would suggest it is unlikely that your 100Mbps network links are creating a bottleneck for your internet traffic.

exclude the cable, ISP problem, the worst case would be some thing wrong with your NIC.

so update the driver or even firmware to see if it get fixed.
