::1 in /etc/hosts

My scripted install drops a ::1 line in the /etc/hosts file. I believe this is related to IPv6 (and we aren't using IPv6). So :

1. Where did this come from? Is it coming from the scripted install? Does this happen w/ DVD install (will test this)?

2.. Will it affect anything? Should I remove it?

This is the localhost entry for IPv6. If you are not using it, you can safely remove the line.

The DVD installation also creates it.

Hello,

ESX's service console is a cut-down version of RHEL5. RHEL5 installs add IPV6 localhosts by default. I would just ignore it. Its unused unless you need IPV6.
