UEFI SD Card boots but no splash screen

I was able to boot the “Raspberry Pi 4 EEPROM boot recovery” and then built the UEFI SD card but it never boots to the Raspberry Pi splash screen – my keyboard is wireless – do I need a physical keyboard for the disk to recognize the “ESC” key presses?  Or is something else wrong?

I must have had a bad SD card - put files on USB stick and it booted and was able to make UEFI settings.
