RK3588 Support

Hi all,

I just got a RK3588 SBC (Rock 5B) recently and I would like to try esxi on it. However, when I look through the supported harware list, I only found RK3566. I wonder if it is possible to install esxi on RK3588 or is there any plan to support the SoC?

Thanks!

Hi,

Hardware compatibility means that ESXi will be run without problem on hardware and there are shipped drivers for devices, but you can install it on not certified hardware too.

While this is true for x86, you need to take into account that most ARM devices do NOT have UEFI/SystemReady support, which will be required to boot ESXi-ARM. Even if the CPU is supported, the firmware needs to be able to boot via UEFI.

The development of UEFI seems still processing. https://github.com/jaredmcneill/quartz64_uefi/issues/36 Even if we can bootstrap to ESXI, we also will encounter difficulty with NIC driver. It is a long way to go.
