I'm following the KB How to migrate VMware Persona Management to VMware User Environment Manager (2118056) | VMware KB
UEM Folder redirection generates following error upon first login:
Folder redirection: error 0x80070002 getting current path for 'Desktop' folder.
It does work on subsequent logins.
Is this an expected behavior?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good to hear that you found a solution.
I have not tested with disabling Persona directly on enabling UEM, because the whole migration assumes that you run the two products side by side for a while to allow the migration at logoff.
The error must have to do something with timing, but with this description everybody should be able to successfully migrate to UEM.
Thanks for sharing.
Appears to me like the in-built Folder Redirection in UEM 9.1 is glitched. I tried using standard windows folder redirection GPO settings and the folders are redirected on the first log in.
Could it be that the Desktop folder is currently at a different location than the rest of the Userprofile? Is it redirected already? Or are all folders in the Persona share?
Thanks for the reply Pim.
We're re-directing desktop, documents and favorites folder and they are all in the same Share. Persona uses a different Share.
How are you currently redirecting the Desktop, Documents, etc?
Do you use the Persona GPO for that? Or a 'regular' Windows Folder Redirection GPO? Or something else?
We are using Persona GPO for folder Redirection. We're trying to migrate to UEM and on UEM 9.1, there is a setting on the User Environment tab for Folder Redirection. According to the KB, Folder Redirection Settings can be defined there. When we use it for Folder Redirection, removing the folder redirection defined on Persona, folders are not redirected on first log on. On subsequent log on, the folders do get redirected. During the migration if users do not see their desktop and Documents upon log in, they might freak out and we'll be overwhelmed asking users to login, log off and login back again.
On older UEM documentations it says to use the standard Windows Policy Settings for Folder Redirection. When we use the windows folder redirection, the folders do get redirected upon first log in.
So, I think the in-built Folder Redirection on UEM 9.1 is glitched.
If I understand correct the redirected location of the Desktop does not change.
You just want to use UEM to redirect the Desktop to the correct network share.
In that case you don't need to disable the Desktop redirection in the Persona GPO immediately. You can just let both Persona and UEM redirect the Desktop both, because both redirections point to the same location.
Could you try what happens is you leave the Desktop redirected also in Persona?
And in that case, what happens when you disable the Persona Desktop redirection after you have already logged on with UEM at least once?
Cheers, Pim.
Hi Pim,
Thank You for the suggestion.
This is what i did.
We've two Persona GPO, one for Folder Redirection and other for Persona Repository location. On the OU that I'm testing UEM, I've Persona GPO, Persona Folder Redirection GPO and UEM GPO with loopback processing mode enabled. During the test migration, I logged in as a test user with all 3 GPOs enabled. Folder Redirection and Application settings work fine. Now to initiate the migration, I disabled Persona GPO and enabled DirectFlex on UEM GPO with Persona Folder Redirection GPO active. I then logged off and logged in back again. The folder redirection is still working and the application settings are migrated. Now I can disable the Persona Folder Redirection GPO and keep only UEM GPO active.
This seems to do the trick. However, if i disable both Persona GPO at once after the user logs in, UEM doesn't seem to process the folder redirection.

Also, when running UEM and Persona side by side, I noticed that if users log off and happen to log in back to the same VM, the redirected folders are deleted and new ones are created. To avoid this I had to setup "Refresh VMs Immediately" when users log off. I think it has something to with the profile type.
