Would be interested to hear your say on the below issue:
We assume that all start menu settings are under taskbar...So, This is what we have set for TaskBar settings under UEM 9.0
Still, once the user erase some of his shortcuts from the startup menu - they re-appear in the next session...meaning this is not getting saved. any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated for the above issue...
thanks!
Couple of questions:
- What kind of profile are you using ?
- Persistent or Non-persistent machine ?
- How are these shortcuts delivered, by UEM or from the default profile ?
My guess is you are using a non-persistent machine or mandatory profile and the shortcuts are delivered from the default profile.
If that is the case, remove the highlighted icons from the default profile because every time a user logs in, their profile gets re-created together with these icons.
If you want them to have these icons at first login, use pre-defined settings or at the shortcut tab select the option "run once"

I'd echo what Raymond has said too. You'll probably find those icons present either it your base mandatory profile, or in the gold image in the All Users start menu (c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu).
I've posted this elsewhere, but the following is an amended Taskbar config that I've implemented at several sites - I've had no problems with start menu, MRU's or pinned items with it (assuming you've tidied up your default profile):
[IncludeRegistryTrees]
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage2
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\StartMenu2\Programs
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist
[IncludeIndividualRegistryValues]

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\EnableAutoTray
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2\Settings
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3\Settings
[IncludeFolderTrees]

<AppData>\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\Taskbar
<AppData>\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

Hi Ray,
thanks for your answer. You have guess correctly - we are using Non Persistent desktops (linked Clones). The shortcuts are coming from the default profile.
I will check your suggestion and update accordingly.
Cheers,
Eyal
Thanks alsmk2,
I will check the config and update accordingly.
Some of the paths you have mentioned in your taskbar config are not visible in our environment though I assume UEM will simply ignore those.
Do you know WHERE can I see the those shortcuts location? Where is windows7 SP1 (64bit) keeping them?
and I mean specifically those highlighted in my screenshot below:
You should be able to "shift+right-click" them and select "Open file location" to show you were they are located..
I'd suspect they will be in one of the following locations.
1. On your View Gold Image in the All Users Start Menu: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu
You'd need to update your GA and re-provision your desktops if they are in here.
2. In your default user profile, which could vary depending on how you deliver the default profile. If your users get their default profile from one stored locallyon the gold image, it is most likely going to be C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu. If you have a a profile stored on a network location it will be \\server\share\Default.V2\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu.
If shift+right-click opens a file location in the users actual profile (I.e, not the All Users Start Menu), then that would suggest to me that it is in your default profile. If you really aren't sure where that is you can find out from cmd prompt by running gpresult /r - your local and roaming/ mandatory profile will be listed at the top of the output.
Hi,
Is your issue solved ?
