DEM: Bandwidth Profiles

Hi there, looking for some help on Bandwidth Profiles in DEM smart policies.

What are those and how do I use them?

2 scenarios:

1. WFH India users connecting to the VDIs on extremely low bandwidth networks (1-2 MB). Connect via UAG or Cisco VPN.

2. Office users connecting via LAN.

Is it possible to tune Blast protocol for this 2 different scenarios if so how?

Also I see performance improvement when using PCoIP bt not with Blast. Am I missing something?

Hello,

There are 6 Bandwidth profiles available on DEM Smart Policies which can only be used for Blast Connections. These 5 settings have an individual profile code which would be configured on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Vmware, Inc.\Vmware Blast\Config"

* Depending on the profile you choose the Horizon reads the profile value and sets the bandwidth parameters for that session per profile setting. [ Example parameter: Minimum and Maximum Bandwidth KBPS for session, FPS, display quality etc., ]

* By default the Blast is adjusted for best performance, you could either go with using "Low Speed Wan" for your 1st scenario of WFH India Users and you could leave the smart policy disabled for Office Users.

* If the bandwidth profile values not providing you the good results, then you may refer the "https://techzone.vmware.com/resource/vmware-blast-extreme-optimization-guide#optimizing-blast-extrem...  (document for manually controling the bandwidth parameter to the values which suits your environment. Manual configuration can be done either through GPO or through registry. Same document covers the registry path as well.

* On the above document for scenario one [ WFH ] you could refer "Additional Optimizations for Low Bandwidth" / "Additional Optimizations for High Latency" and "Additional Optimizations for Packet Loss"

* On the above document for scenario two [ LAN ] you could refer "Optimizing for Quality"
