Is VMware standalone converter officially supported with 6.5 vSphere ? I'm planning to perform a P-V conversion TO 6.5 environment.
Hi Sreec,
The latest Standalone Converter - V 6.1.1 doesnt support vSphere 6.5.
vSphere 6.5 is not in the compatibility list of Destination Types.
6.5 was released after 6.1.1 converter. vSphere 6.5 GA release was on Nov 16 and Converter 6.1.1 was released in Feb 2016.
Yes this is exactly what i found . In my case it is just one server so i will give it a shot. From other user forums i can see few people have already done the conversion and it worked flawlessly. Most likely i will do it against 6.0 Host and migrate it to 6.5 via SV/VM motion. I hope that is a safe approach.
good to give a try.
"Most likely i will do it against 6.0 Host and migrate it to 6.5 via SV/VM motion. " its supported, a safe bet.
This is not officially supported but still people are trying this successfully. Have a look on this VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.1.1 works with ESXi 6.5, virtualizing Windows PCs & VMs for fr.... You should try on ESXi 6.5 GA
Kia Ora.
I'm about to perform a P2V exercise unfortunately also directed to vSphere 6.5. How did you get on with your project to vSphere 6.5 target? did it work? any gotchas or issues you ran into of importance?
My alternative if i have problems is to nest a combo vCenter6 + 1x ESXi6 VMs with NFS attached storage; vmconvert to those targets. unregister from vcenter 6 & re-register to vcenter 6.5 to launch. But i'll give it a go first.
cheers.
