re-install VMware tools necessary?

I have converted a RHEL4 VM from ESX to workstation 6.0, which vmware-tools is already installed. is it necessary to re-install the vmware tools in workstation environment?

BTW, where can i see the vmware-tools version in workstation?

Yes = ESX tools are not the same as Workstation tools.

If you installed via RPM, simply uninstall the RPM then right-click the VM to install tools from inside WS

i read the ws6.0 manual, it will automatic install vmware-tools if find the version mismatch or new version avaliable.

in linux guest os, run vmware-toolbox will show version.
