"Error: Unable to connect to the Converter helper server on the destination virtual machine."

Using vConverter 4.3 unable to complete a P2V conversion, the following message appears: "Error: Unable to connect to the Converter helper server on the destination virtual machine." I set up an ip address manually to the Helper Server, but we did not succeed.

Hi,

May be VLAN-related - take a look at the suggested fixes in the thread below to see if they help

Check also for firewall issues. Have a look at "Ports Used When Converting a Powered-On Physical Machine Running Linux" in the user's guide.

If you are using the same static IP address for consecutive conversions, it is possible to have the ARP cache on the target network gateway outdated (where the target VM is created). You can either refresh the ARP cache on the gateway or login to the helper VM and generate some outbound traffic out of it (e. g. a ping request) - this will refresh the ARP cache on the gateway as well. Instructions how to log in to the helper VM are available at http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&externalId=1036746.
