convertion failed at 95%

Hi,

Running esxi 4.1, trial license. Trying to convert a fairly old hp dl380 running windows 2003. C: went fine, but on 95% of total completion (which would be last of d:) it failed. The other log files seem to be the gui, would they help?

Could it be because the server is running and is in use (running only IIS, no database)? If so, could I boot it in failsafe with networking and retry?

if it stoped at 98% you may be able to power on the virtual machine. Just check if everything is in place at the destination.

It's not, BSOD with 0x7b - meaning inaccessible boot device. I read somewhere that the drive letters can get mixed up, but that does not sound satisfying

Tried all controller types, no go. Reset to Lsi logic parallell. Created a new disk, and the new controller replaced the old.

I can only see one controller now, and not both as the article states (not even with 'show all devices').

Even tried the vmware paravirtualization controller, but all generates the 0x7b

Last week I converted 2 DL380 G2 servers to ESX 4.0U2 using the coldclone CD (VMware-convertercd-4.1.1-206170) Worked without any issues.

did you try to configure the VM  again ? - thats the configure machine option of Converter."

before you try make sure the vmx-says

scsi0.virtualDev = "buslogic"

and

scsi0:0.filename = "path-to-your-imported.vmdk"

When I reconfigure, I don't see that as an option. I cannot alter any details like that.
