Windows 2K Server conversion problem.

I have a client with an old 2k SP4 server that is dying.

I'm using converter 4.0.1 and I'm not changing any of the disk settings in the conversion. The conversion runs just fine and goes all the way through to 100%, but the resulting virutal machine is not bootable.

When you try and start the VM, you simply get a white underscore in the upper left hand corner of a black screen. Nothing more.

I'm certain it's because of the goofy disk config. I'm not quite sure how the server ended up like this, but I'm fried and need some guidance. Below, I've copied and pasted the contents of the boot.ini, and I've attached a screenshot of disk managment. Any help would be appreciated!

timeout=1

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Server" /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Server" /fastdetect

There are some problem with multiple boot entries.

Try to remove them, and restart conversion.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll try that this afternoon!

I tried editing the boot.ini file, removing the entry that wasn't necissary. The resulting VM still won't boot.

Any more ideas?

But you real OS is in installed on C: or in D:?

From boot.ini I suppose in 😧 and this can cause same problem.

Try to convert ONLY the disk with the OS.

I'm having this same exact issue, I tried converting just the drive with the OS on it, same results.

Here is the boot.ini:

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Standard" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut

I had orignally thought it had something to do with the dell recovery parition on the server, which resulted in Operating System Not Found. I was able to fix that error message to instead get the underscore cursor screen with parted magic after deleting the dell parition, then modifying the boot.ini to pretty much the same as above.

Any other ideas or things to try?

I tried using version 3 of the VMConverter, and it appears to work.

So it must be some sort of issue with V4
