Windows 10 slow after using vCenter Converter

Hi,

I'm a new user of ESXI, I was using XCP-NG (based on Xen) and after 10 years, I decided to switch on ESXI for some reasons.

I have currently 2 Windows 10 Pro hosted on ESXI and it work not so bad. However, these 2 hosts are coming from a XCP Hypervisor and the performance on ESXI are not so good as a fresh install of Windows on ESXI.

This is how I proceed to migrate these Windows from XCP-NG to ESXI:

1. These Windows 10 was running on XCP-NG 8.0

2. Uninstalled all the drivers related to Xen

3. Installed vCenter Converter on each Windows host

4. Started conversion from local Windows to the new ESXI 6.7 server

5. Started Windows on ESXI and installed the VMWare tools

6. Performed some benchmark

The server with ESXI is a HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 with the following specs:

• 16 CPUs x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v4 @ 2.10GHz
• 64GB RAM
• 8x600Go HDD SAS 10k

  • 600Go HDD Raid 1 for ESXI

  • 1200Go HDD Raid 1+0 to store the VMs

I ran some benchmark (UserBenchmark) on the fresh install of Windows and on the migrated Windows. The result can be found here:

As you can see, the performance are not very good on the migrated hosts:

• CPU are slower
• HDD are very, very slow
• Ram has more latency and slower in some case

My question is: As my migrated Windows says everything is fine on the device manager and VMWare tools are well installed, what can I do to speed up and recover the performance of a fresh Windows install?

Of course, the worst solution I wish to avoid is to resinstall a fresh Windows in place of migrated Windows.

I'd say you've done a good job. Did you change hardware compatibility after migration?

Thank to your advice, it's amlost fixed! CPU and ram are now working well and the performance are the same as the fresh Windows install.

There is still an issue with the hard drive, but it is probably not due to the converter.
