Why so slow??

Why is p2v assistant so slow to copy files from servers that have been booted with the P2V boot cd? Were talking servers that are running 100Mbps or 1Gbps NIC's are transferring files at like 35kb/s - 150kb/s! This is going from physical to virtual.

I have tried to and from different servers to narrow the problem and it seems inherent in each and every one of them, this is with the last officially released version. 2.1.2

Is this just the nature of the beast or am I doing something wrong?

The default for p2v assistant is Auto/Auto, are your physical switch ports also set to Auto/Auto? If not it will probably negotiate to 100/Half and you will see slow transfer rates. What does it say in the last screen when you are done configuring about the speed/duplex?

Try playing with ethtool to change the duplex settings between full/half/auto to see if the speed improves. You can do it while the copying is happening without killing the connection. Doing so at the switch level will however kill the transfer.

where can be ethtool be found? is it part of the bootcd distribution or must it be downloaded seperately?

Thanks
