We have VMware converted loaded onto our host server for VM's,
Currently when doing conversions, we connect to the host server run converter and convert a physical in the same location as the host server to a VM on the host server.
My question is: say for instance we have VMware Converter loaded onto a server on our network in China, when converting, does the data pass from the us location, through the China loaded VMware Converter back to the host server in the US?
If I'm reading this correctly, if you are asking that if you had a physical machine in China and the destination in China, but Converter is running in the US, data transfer would be from the source to destination in China. However, the Converter agent in China would still need to maintain contact with Converter program in the US for the conversion job control.
So would the conversion take longer being that it needs to maintain connection with the conversion application in the US location?
Probably not, but if there's a risk the connection will drop or time out, the entire job will fail. In that case, you're better off installing Converter on your physical machine or somewhere else in China where both your physical machine and destination reside.
