WS6 to ESX3 Conversion with Local drive as destination

Due to a performance problem on our ESX/VCenter environment I cannot get converter to successfully convert an image into the environment. Is there any way I can convert the image to ESX format, but have it place the image on a local drive so I can copy it over manually into our storage?

Workstation and ESX Server use different disk formats. Workstation 6 also has a higher hardware level than ESX Server 3.

You'll need to use Converter inside WS6 and create a WS5 VM, and select the 2GB-file option. Then you can copy these files over to ESX Server and then run vmkfstools to import the .vmdk files into ESX Server's VMFS format.

That is not the full story - in reality you can directly exchange the monolithicFlat format of WS 6 with ESX 3. It just needs a small edit. You do not even need vmkfstools to import it ...

Never mind - this is of course not supported Smiley Wink
