Hi,
I am using Enterprise edition 4.0.2. ESX server configuration is 2x quad core cpu and 16 GB RAM and source and destination servers have 1Gig NICs.
Recently I have converted (hot migration) a physical machine which have 600 GB data and it took almost 24 hrs (source and destination are on same subnet), I think this is very slow. Next week we have two more servers which have almost 800 GB data. Please let me know is there any way which can reduce the conversion time.
Regards,
GMR
Better way is to convert system disk only, and data can be added later - with RDM, or just by copying directly to VM.

All these are file servers and I want the file share permissions should be intact.
Is there any other way which can reduce the conversion time?

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.
I just did a 400 gb system.
Copy the c: drive using vmware converter.
Then robocopy the other drives, it will get all the correct file permissions.
So then you will bring the copied system up in a manner that keeps the clients from seeing it as a file server, then robocopy the data.
Disable the server service, computer browser server, and uncheck "dynamically register this server."
So the clone will boot and it will be able to access other servers by ip or complete hostname, but clients will not see it or be able to access it as a windows file share.
Try this idea on a test system to prove it works.
The advantages of the robocopy method are copy speed, and the final copy is very fast, minimizing your downtime.
